The Data/File Structure
What kind of files are needed and created when running ENVI-met?
The files needed and produced by ENVI-met can be distinguished between Input-Files (defining a specific simulation), Database Files (collecting information for all simulations) and Output Files (created by ENVI-met).
In addition, two files in the group Other Files are used for special tasks in ENVI-met.
The following list gives you an overview of all the files. You can also use this graphical chart to explore the data flow.
Input Files
- The Configuration File .CF
Defining the settings for a specific single simulation
- Area Input File .IN
Defining the simulation area (buildings, trees, etc.)
- Batch File .EBF
Allows to define a sequence of individual simulations
Database Files
- General Overview
- Soil Database SOILS.DAT
Defining the properties of different natural and artificial soils
- Profiles Database PROFILES.DAT
Defining different soil types as vertical sandwiches of soils from SOILS.DAT
* [[Plant Database PLANTS.DAT]]
Defining all plants
- Sources Database SOURCES.DAT
Defining the output and emission height of particle or gas sources
* [[Defining additional local databases for plants and sources]]

Output Files
- General Overview
- Main Data Files .EDI/.EDT
Containing all the data calculated by ENVI-met
Data for selected points in the model area chosen by the user
- 1D-Model Files
Containing the state of the 1D model
- BOTworld Files
Making the link to the BOTworld model
Other Files
- Defining Alias (MYALIAS.DAT)
Using relative file paths for easy simulation transfer between computers, inital project management
